-Linus will be given the opportunity to be a top six NHL forward
-Since the contract is only one year, it gives him the chance to earn a substantial raise in an extention.
-Linus is seen as a building block for the future of this team.

The Edmonton Oilers offer Linus Omark (A-) - LW a 3 year 2.55 million contract (0.85 million per year)

Reasons:

A 2007 draft pick of the Oilers, Omark fits into the steady progression of the new Oiler philosophy of smaller, quicker forwards with a high skill level.

Similar in style to other Oiler forwards, Omark will be able to learn and adapt to the NHL drawing on experience from a very similar Ales Hemsky

Following in the footsteps of the youth movement of Gagner, Cogliano and Gilbert, the Oilers are set on having multiple scoring lines with high skill and speed where Omark will fit on the left side with Robert Nilsson.

As the Oilers scouts state:

A flashy player with first-class technical skills and hands. Very creative with good hockey sense and natural scoring ability. Defense is so-so, although it can be fine-tuned. Quick skater with great agility and can dangle. Additional strength and muscles would not hurt. As pointed out to me, Omark is actually a 2007 draft pick of the Edmonton Oilers and was mistakenly included in the UFA list.
